Masbia:

Masbia is a nonprofit soup kitchen network and food pantry, everyday providing hot, nutritious meals for hundreds of New Yorkers in desperate need of food. Alongside our hot-meal program, we also give out bags of much needed groceries every week to those with not enough at home, through our weekend take-home package program. Masbia works to not only feed the hungry, but to provide free, wholesome, and delicious meals for people in a restaurant-style environment, with volunteer waiters serving each person with respect and dignity.

More info:

There are three primary locations: Flatbush, Queens, and Boro Park. Primarily, our teen volunteers are involved at our Flatbush and Queens locations. All volunteers under the age of 18, must be accompanied by an adult supervisor over the age of 18, and can assist in a variety of tasks! If you are at our Flatbush central kitchen, you may be helping to prepare food by performing tasks such as peeling potatoes and chopping vegetables. Additionally, volunteers at our sites may assist in serving dinner, performing inventory for our food pantry, bagging pantry items up, and any other miscellaneous task. Please note that we attempt to match each volunteer based on their abilities, but we sometimes require tasks other than serving clients in order to operate our network of kitchens. Please note that all volunteer groups must be scheduled in advances and must fill out an application as a group.

Volunteer hours span from 8:00am to 9:00pm at our Flatbush site Sunday – Thursday. In Queens, volunteers are needed from 2:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday – Thursday.
